Which dates should I enter?

Use your trip dates in the date selection fields. These are days and not nights as is the case with booking hotels. The dates you select will indicate the days you will need the item(s) for. For example, if your trip is for a weekend, then you need to select the Saturday and Sunday. Your order will then be delivered (if courier option is selected) on the Friday and collected on a Monday. If you chose to pickup from us, then you may do so on the Friday and return the gear on the Monday. You will see the collection and return dates while you are selecting your trip dates.

We offer 1 day rentals as well. Just use the same date as yoru start and end date.

Please note, we are only open on weekends for collection and return of orders that were booked in advance.

Refundable Deposit

The deposit is a refundable deposit. It is similar to a rental car deposit and based on the value of the products you rent from us. We realize that items are used outdoors and will not penalize customers for general wear and tear.

You will be refunded your deposit automatically once the gear has been checked upon its return. It should not take longer than 5 working days. We will notify you should that not be the case.

What are my options to receive and return gear?

You have two options to receive and return your gear and are based on your postal code. Please enter a valid postal code when you check out to see your options:

    Collect from us free of charge at:
  • Scuttle Cape Town: Stor-age, 121 Roeland St, Gardens, Cape Town, 8001
  • Scuttle Johannesburg: Pinelands Office Park, Maxwell Drive, Modderfontein, 1609
    You will receive an email 2 days before your trip starts, asking you to select a collection slot. Please check your spam folder if you do not receive it.

Courier delivery to your door

  • Within our radius – we will deliver
  • Outside our radius – you are welcome to arrange your own courier if your postal code falls outside our radius (excluding fridges as they are fragile)

Estimated Delivery/Courier Cost:

  • 0 – 75km from Cape Town – R250
  • Gauteng – R250
  • Main Centres in rest of the country – R200 (2 day lead time)
    The option you select to receive your gear will automatically be applied for returning the gear. If, for instance, you would like to have the gear couriered to you but drop it off after your trip, please add that in the delivery notes.

How do I know whether items are available?

After selecting your dates and location, the items you see are the ones we have in stock. Use the “Add to cart” button to add as many items as you need. Our system always has up to date stock levels and will notify you if we’ve run out of stock for a particular item.

What if I require large quantities?

We stock multiples of each item, and for some items we have large quantities available. You are welcome to contact us at info@scuttle.co.za for assistance with larger bookings.

Where is Scuttle gear available?

We have branches in Cape Town (1) and Gauteng (1). All of our Hiking products are shipped nationally (please allow 2 days for delivery outside main centres). As we are still building our network of collection points across South Africa, the bulkier items is only available in Gauteng and within a radius of 75km from Cape Town (up to Melkbosstrand, Paarl, Somerset West). These items include canvas tents, gazebo’s, coolers, fridges and similar large heavy products.

Most of the other products we can easily ship to your door anywhere in SA. If there’s something outside of the Hiking category that you need, get in touch and we will try to assist as best possible!

What is the lead time for nationwide shipping?

Our standard delivery time is 2 – 3 business days, which will be the cost displayed during checkout.

We will arrange the exact delivery and collection dates with you in person after the order is placed. We request that the delivery address for the products is also the collection address. Please also keep the original packaging  to be used for the return shipping.

Do we offer discount on longer term rentals?

We offer the following discount structure10% discount for rentals of 4 – 7 days20% discount on rentals of 8 – 14 days30% discount on rentals of 15 – 28 daysThis is automatically included in your price.

Cancellation of order or part thereof

Once you have placed an order, you may cancel the order or part thereof up until 5 days before your trip with no penalty. After this time you will be refunded 50% of the gear rental fee and your deposit up until 48 hours before your trip start date or 24 hours before your order is delivered. Once your order has been delivered or you have collected your order, no refund will be done.

You are also welcome to delay your order instead of cancelling it. Just let us know in advance and we will change the dates of your order. Subject to availability.

 

Items with '(buy)' in the description.

Next to some of the item titles you’ll find (buy) which means that you will receive a brand new product. You are able to add multiples of the same product to your basket as you would when renting an item.

Billing and Shipping Address

Your billing and shipping addresses can be different. Select the shipping address that is the most convenient for you. The postal code is the most important part to get right as this determines the shipping methods available.

For international customers, please use your South African address to place an order as our website uses your postal code to determine the shipping methods available.

Payment

You have two options i.e. PayFast which is a credit card as well as an instant EFT* (electronic funds transfer) payment gateway or with a Direct Bank Transfer (cash)*. Should you wish to do an instant cash payment (instant EFT), your gear will only be reserved for 24 hours or until you have made payment and we have received confirmation from your bank. You may send the confirmation to orders@scuttle.co.za. With Credit Card payments the gear will be reserved immediately.

How do you ensure sleeping bags are clean?

Each sleeping bag is rented out with a clean liner. You will find that most of the time the liner will feel brand new. All our products, especially sleeping bags, are inspected after each rental and washed as required. Rest assured that the sleeping bag you rent from us will be fresh and clean as if it was your own.

Damaged gear

It is important to report and record any damage to gear as soon as possible. If the gear got damaged on your trip, please do not attempt to repair it yourself. Some gear requires technical expertise for repairs. Rather inform us at info@scuttle.co.za.

Dirty gear

We request that you take care of our products and return them in the same state they were received. Please do not clean products with anything other than water and a mild detergent. Items like down sleeping bags should not be washed at all. Should items be returned very dirty, we may use the deposit to clean it.

How do products compare to the images shown?

We aim to bring you the best quality products that you will love to use. You can expect that the items you’ve booked will look like the images listed. In rare occasions the colours could differ slightly or we may need to substitute the product shown with a similar product. Don’t worry, we will notify you beforehand if that’s the case.
